Core Fitness Martial Arts, recently opened in Bloomfield Hills, MI. They offer karate classes for children, teens and adults, as well as kickboxing classes. The classes combine kicking and combat punching techniques, with self-defense and meditation to help develop strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina.

Core Fitness Martial Arts classes include:

Tiger Tots: for children 3-5 years. The classes are offered once a week on Saturday from 10:15am-11am. The classes teach children to be good listeners, improve social skills, and practice patience. Tiger Tots students are said to be better students at school and better listeners at home.

Martial Arts Classes: for those ages 6 and up. The classes are offered three times per week on Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm-7:45pm, and Friday from 6pm-6:45pm. Students are encouraged to attend two out of the three days.  Classes are offered at every level from beginning to black belt. Martial Arts Classes teach: discipline, self-defense, leadership skills, and relaxation and meditation exercises. Classes help develop strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina.

Kickboxing: for adults looking for a cardio-based workout. You can burn up to 500 calories in a 45 minute session! The class combines high intensity training drills, calisthenics, and kickboxing pad drills. Students learn strikes, blocks, punches and kicks, as well as incorporate relaxation and meditation techniques found in yoga. The classes are offered seven times a week on Sunday morning, Monday evening, Wednesday evening, Thursday morning, three times on Friday, and Saturday morning. For a full schedule go HERE.

All classes are taught by Instructor Peter Davenport. As a second degree black belt, Peter has more than 20 years of martial arts experience. In 2009, Peter represented the United States at the World Kickboxing Council Championship in Dublin, Ireland, where he earned a silver medal. He recently qualified to represent the U.S. at the 2010 Championships held in Portugal.

My children were invited to attend martial arts classes at Core Fitness Martial Arts to facilitate this review. They have ben taking classes under the leadership of Instructor Davenport for almost two weeks, and already have their white belt!

Instructor Davenport tests the kids individually on the moves they just learned
None of my children have martial arts experience, and they could all use a lesson or two in discipline and respect :) I am very pleased with Instructor Davenport's teaching ability. The class sizes are small, so the instructor is able to give each child personalized attention. Instructor Davenport creates a friendly environment that is both fun and educational for children. In addition to teaching martial arts, Instructor Davenport encourages children to demonstrate problem-solving skills, and show respect, as well as self-restraint. He enforces discipline and self-restraint without being too stern, as to discourage the children from coming back.

Kids stand at attention as Instructor Davenport speaks
I have definitely seen in improvement at home with my boys. They are already demonstrating more respect for others. My five year old actually says, "Excuse me mom", when he interrupts me now! Hopefully, my daughter will follow suit... If you are a parent of a child on the Autism Spectrum, like myself, I would highly recommend Core Fitness Martial Arts. In the short time that my nine year old has been in the class, I have seen more confidence and respect for others from him.

I would recommend Core Fitness Martial Arts to any parent who want their children to learn good life skills, or anyone looking to improve their own health with kickboxing classes!

MMA training is actually quite exciting and very engaging. Getting back into shape with distance running or other hardcore exercises is not fun and not always appreciated by people who are looking forward to regular fitness exercises. Best BJJ in Connecticut
