Future Oxygen is a Michigan-based company, that offers charming pendants and key chains that can be worn and carried for up to 2 years and then planted to grow into beautiful flowers, grasses or trees, making a living, lasting connection to a special life moment, relationship or memory.

All FO2 products are 100% biodegradable, including the packaging. (The one metal piece in the key chains can be returned to Future Oxygen for a discount on a future purchase.) The products are made entirely in Michigan and sourced only in the US. Future Oxygen products are partially assembled using companies in mid-Michigan whose mission is to hire mentally- and physically-challenged individuals, enabling them to be productive and earn decent wages. A portion of the proceeds from FO2 sales is donated through GreaterGood.org to support breast cancer awareness, animal rescue and support of the environment.

REVIEW:

I was able to review an item from Future Oxygen, and I chose the Butterfly Pendant. The beautiful pendant grows into a white pine tree! The pendant itself looks like a piece of square clay tile. The art work looks hand-painted, giving the item a very unique and pretty look. The pendant hangs on what looks like a piece of twine, and is easy to put on and take off. All you have to do is put the knotted end into the loop on the other end. I like that their are no cumbersome clasps to bother with. The pendant is water-resistant, so a little water won't hurt it, but the card that comes with the pendant advises against wearing it while swimming, or it might start to grow! I gave my pendant to my 10 year old daughter and she loves it! She looks forward to planting it in two years.

How many of you watched Beverly Hills 90210 when you were younger and stayed glued to the screen when Jason Priestly or Luke Perry came on? Come on, I know I'm not the only one that had a major crush on these gentlemen ;)

Well, lucky for those of us who enjoyed watching these two a decade ago, they are joining forces once again! On Saturday January 29, 2011 at 8pm EST, the Hallmark Movie Channel will present the world premiere of Goodnight for Justice. The film is directed by Jason Priestly and stars Luke Perry. This release marks the first time these two veterans have worked together in any capacity since Beverly Hills 90210.

An hour before the premier on Jan 29 (7pm EST) Jason and Luke will be doing a live chat directly with their fans, which is also a first! This event will take place on facebook.com/hallmarkmoviechannel.

This Valentine's Day do away with flowers, chocolates or anything ordinary. Pamper mom and get her something she deserves..... a break! Care4Hire.com offers fantastic services to help mom with a cleaning lady, trustworthy babysitter, or anything else her heart desires. Care4hire.com is an online family and caregiver database providing babysitters, housekeepers, tutors, pet sitters, elder/companion care and other miscellaneous services.

A free preview of available caregivers is available to families. Whether you need a caregiver for a few hours to a few days, you will find it at Care4hire.com. Once you are a registered member, you will be given immediate access to caregiver through email and phone. They service the United States as well as Canada.

REVIEW:

I really like that Care4Hire allows me to search for caregivers near my home. I can use the drop down menu on the homepage to choose what type of caregiver I am looking for, then I enter my zip code. The caregivers are then shown by the last time they logged in. Without a membership you are able to see the providers picture, name, age, last login, location, level of education, language spoken, if they have a vehicle, and if they smoke. You are also able to see their experience, interests, expected pay, and availability. With a paid membership you can view references and the information to contact the provider.

I really like that the caregivers may be contacted for one time use or for permanent placement. The profiles are very detailed, and you can learn a lot about the providers before contacting them. I do not like that I have to do my own reference and background check on providers. It will be helpful and less time consuming if this was included in the subscription.

Overall, I believe that Care4Hire is an excellent service for anyone looking for a caregiver. The website is very beneficial and saves time when you are looking for a provider. Give a Gift From The Heart with Care4Hire!

Food Stories

How Any Man can Create an Easy Meal for Any Situation

by Denny Stanz

isbn 978-1589825888

Food Stories is a fun, personal journey of one man's experiences as a single dad and man who learned how to cook on the fly. One of the chapters is Valentine's Day, and describes an evening planned by a man for his lady. Food stories was written for men, a storybook wrapped around a cookbook. Only 72 pages the book is the perfect Valentine's gift for any man in your life.

Chapters Include:
  • First Date Dinner
  • Poker Night
  • Single Dad
  • Kids' Pool Party
  • Breakfast for You
  • Thanksgiving Dinner with Your Ex-Wife
  • Super Bowl Party
  • Simple Dinner for You
REVIEW:

The book is the perfect read for any man (or woman) who is looking for easy meals to prepare. I love the personal stories that Denny shares that are sometimes heartfelt, and other times humorous. My favorite chapter was Thanksgiving Dinner with Your Ex-Wife. As a divorced mother, I could definitely relate to this particular chapter. I love how Denny begins "questioning his sanity", after telling his daughter that he would share Thanksgiving dinner with her, his ex-wife, and her new husband. Despite the hurt and various emotions that go along with divorce, Denny "bites the bullet" to make his little girl happy. In this chapter, Denny gives easy to follow instructions to make the perfect Thanksgiving dinner. This to me, was the most heartfelt chapter in the book.

I really liked  loved Food Stories! This book can be completed in an hour, and contains simple, easy to follow recipes. All ingredients can be easily found at your local grocers, and even more experienced cooks can learn something new. This Valentine's Day give the man in your life a Gift From The Heart with- Food Stories by Denny Stanz!

If you haven't joined my Facebook Fan Page, what are you waiting for?! We discuss topics on there that aren't on the blog. It also gives my readers and I a chance to get to know each other better. On Saturday, one of my readers offered up a great money saving tip that is also environmentally friendly. This got me to thinking. I bet that you guys have a lot of great money saving tips that can be shared with all Bargain Mom readers. I would like to start a new weekly segment- Bargain Mom Tipsters. Each Monday I will feature a new reader tip to help us all save money. The tip can be on anything from saving on birthday parties to making homemade cleaners. If you want to participate just email  your tip to me at mi.bargainmom@yahoo.com. I will choose the best tip each week and share it with my readers. If it saves money or helps the environment, it's welcome :) And who knows, I may decide to host a "Bargain Mom Tipster" giveaway every now and then ;)

Thanks Judy for helping me come up with this idea. Here is what Judy Van Alphen had to say,

I know it sounds crazy but I don't use garbage bags. I think they are silly and a waste of money. And I never have a dirty garbage can. Ask me how I do it.

Of course I asked! And here is what Judy said,

‎1) Recycling is not dirty or messy Wash the bottles and cans

2) if you have a garbage disposal use it. Don't scrap, rinse to the disposal, cut veggies in the sink and use the disposal, banana peels orange rind almost all can go in the di...sposal, but not stringy things like corn silk and I think celery can but I don't just in case. Don't put in real hard things like bones or nut shells. No disposal see #4

3) There is only a tinny winny bit of garbage that can't go in disposal see #4

4) For no disposal and the tinny winny from above I know there is very little real garbage even if you have no disposal. Get creative drain the liquid on the bottom of the cereal bowl use that chip bag or cookie bag or box, use that napkin you just used and are throwing in the garbage. Use a can and put it upright in the kitchen garbage can just before you take it out.

PS do not collect garbage, empty at night after dinner if you have to you just rinse the kitchen can.

I grew up in Albany NY and they only had weekly garbage pickup no trash and they were real strict. If it had any trash and they just left it. I can tell you that a family of 5 had less then one shopping bag of garbage a week. They sold, at the store,( these little bags about the size of a poop bag with a holder (sat on the counter) that you used for daily garbage and that is all we used. Albany did pick up trash but only monthly so you better not put the garbage in with the trash it would get real smelly.

Today's kids will need training I grew up with it and so did my kids so no training needed.

I do not use garbage bags at all ever. And I rarely even have to rinse the kitchen can and so what if you do.

Try it Let me know.

Thanks so much Judy, you are now a Bargain Mom Tipster! I will definitely try to follow Judy's tips. If you decide to give it a try, come back here and leave a comment! Don't forget to email me your tips, and if you would like your picture shown in the post, send that too. I will feature a new tip next Monday!

You guys already know that I am a huge fan of customized gifts. So, when Jill- The Poem Lady offered to giveaway one of her customized poems for this Valentine's Day event I thought that it was an excellent idea Jill provides a new service that has become popular with young brides and is great for boyfriends, girlfriends, spouses, parents, children or anyone to do for Valentine's Day. People send her information about the person and she creates a personal poem that can be read aloud to the person. It can be about how they met, how he asked her out for the first time, how she feels about him, or even a proposal! The poem is framed and given as a gift to person. It's the hottest new thing and couples have the memories to treasure for a lifetime.

Her specialty this year is Valentine's poems from all the grandchildren to the grandparents. She puts in a blurb about each grandchild and the parents send the poem in a frame with pictures of the grandkids.

By Holly Plattner

Music makes the heart sing, and it can lighten a load. As schools cut budgets music programs are falling victim to the ax, despite numerous studies which show music education encourages growth and development in all academic disciplines.

Piano Marvel is a state-of-the-art program which offers a solution to the loss kids are experiencing. The program combines a keyboard (or other digital instrument), computer, and the Internet into an enticing teaching tool that is creating a revolution in music education. The program encourages sight reading, timing, and technique by challenging the student in a fun way. Each time a piece is played the student receives a score and is able to increase their score as they practice.

The program is working so well students who are using Piano Marvel are learning at a rate four times faster than the traditional student. Teachers have a fantastic tool to encourage, monitor progress, and train more effectively.
